Sustainability, I believe, will be the hallmark of my generation. After a century and a half of rapid growth since the Industrial Revolution, technological advances, and competitive resource grabbing, my generation has been left as the upcoming leaders tasked with the responsibility of not only reducing our climate footprint but reversing course in order to curb climate change and avoid as much as possible the worst case scenarios. This is the reality of our times and must be considered in every design we create. Sustainable design must become the basis of our innovation and production moving forward. By rethinking the status quo to take into consideration the impact our products and systems have on the environment, business, and people and by actually working to leave a positive impact on each, we can build a world in which design is not the problem but the solution.
